xplorer² lite

The lightweight version of xplorer? is not a crippled unusable salesman of the professional version. It shares the same browsing and management engine, and gives many rival professional file managers a run for their money ? literally! It is a complete little file manager, albeit lacking a bit in bells and whistles.

Acronis can be obtained free if you have a Maxtor or Seagate hard drive.

As reported in the Inquirer, Seagate provides one free downloadable utility called DiscWizard and another called MaxBlast5 for use with their Seagate technology or Maxtor disk drives.

Both utilities are based on an OEM version of Acronis’s well-regarded True Image backup application. According to the Inquirer’s report, both free utilities support the creation of disk images, partitions, the cloning and formatting of disks, and more.

You can view any typeface in bold, italic, underline and also 3D. In addition, you can also compare two selected fonts and preview fonts that are not yet installed on your system. FontPage can also print a sample page for selected fonts or print a list of all installed fonts.

If you have a bunch of files that you wrote at different times, and you want to change the file names to put them in a cohesive order, this freeware is for you. It makes fast work of this chore, enabling you to add a custom word, phrase, or incremental number to the beginning or end of the file name, or to replace a series of characters with any other word or phrase. Its three panes allow you to select a path, view the current file’s contents, and check your changed file names.

I’ve been using this for several years and am very happy with it.

PassKeeper

PassKeeper is a Windows utility that allows you to keep a list of accounts with usernames, passwords, and notes. This list is stored encrypted.

Empty Temp Folders

Empty Temp Folders (emptemp) helps you manage folders that contain temporary files, left over by other applications. It’s easy to add any folder and you can empty a folder (or all folders) with one click.

Also emptemp will let you list and delete cookies, history files and temporary internet files (this requires MS Internet Explorer version 5+).

Emptemp also has a search function to let you find and delete temporary files outside the normal temp folders. Any program can leave behind temporary files or backup files anywhere on your harddisk. These files have file types like .tmp, .bak, .old and .log. You can add your own file types.

Emptemp also displays the amount of memory the content of the clipboard takes up, and lets you delete it. And it can find broken shortcuts (.lnk files) on your harddisk, so you can delete or fix them.
