Kill Those Damn Pop Up Ads
Feb 07, 2001

I was surfin around Themestreams a few minutes ago and low and behold I came across an article at:Damn Those pop Up Adds (neat little poem - check it out)
which contained a poem about those nasty Themestream popup adds. I was somewhat surprised that 59 people had made comments about how fed up they were with them since I figured that by now every one is using some sort of popup killer as there are so many free ones available; sooo... here's another review.
I first started to use Firas El-Hasan's programs about four years ago and one of these happens to be NoAds2000 and it has just been updated to version 6.30.1. This is a small program that consumes few resources, its free, and works with the Themestream and any other popup add I have ever come across.
"NoAds is a Windows program that detects when Internet popup advertisements appear, and quickly closes them. A popup ad is an ad that appears in a new web browser window, and requires you to manually close that window. NoAds is fully configurable, allowing you to specify which ads you want to be destroyed automatically. It fully supports most popular web browsers, including Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, and America Online 4.0 and above. The program is very easy to use, and stays running in the System Tray(next to the time) for quick access." (1)
Just fire up the program whenever you run your browser, or go to the options panel and select load every time Windows starts. Whenever a popup add appears, add it to the list for NoAds2000 to deal with in the future; and thats the last time you will see the darn thing.
Firas has lots of other neat programs - some freeware and some shareware; have some fun give a few of them a try. Firas's site
