Resource Free Desktop Enhancements Jan 07, 2001 For all you desktop enhancement addicts using Win 95/98 here's a little known trio of goodies that are virtually resource free and will extend the useable taskbar area by reducing the size of the icons . In addition you can change the look of you scroll bar, dropdown and menu arrows; and overall color schemes. NANOSKIN Download the program at: NANOSKIN and unzip it to a new folder called NanoSkin; using Windows Explorer double click on the unzipped file "Install MarNew Font". Let windows restart and the new font and resultant new arrows will be installed. If you want to deinstall go to your NanoSkins folder and double click on "Restore Orginal Font". I recommend that you download the MarLite skin as well; since the skin that comes with NanoSkin may not be to your liking. Try them both, they are very easy to install and uninstall. TASKBAR ICONS This next program is even neater in my opinion since it improves both the looks and functionality of Windows 95/98. This program comes as part of the NanoSkin download.Once again installation is just a matter of double clicking on the Taskbar Icons On.reg. To deinstall just double click on the Taskbar Icons OFF.reg. This program is going to take a little fiddling around to get it just right for the screen resolution you are using so study the "readme" file carefully and be willing to spent 10 or 15 minutes making the necessary adjustments(2 or 3 reboots may be necessary or you may luck out and get it just right the first time). Take my word for it; its well worth the trouble. SCHEMES This little beauty adds a couple dozen different schemes under your properties/appearance tab.If you don't want to take up a lot of room storing themes on your computer and yet enoy changing the look of your computer then this program is for you, The program can be downloaded at: SCHEMES Using the Schemes Right click on your Desktop, click on Properties, then click on the Appearance tab.Scroll through the list of new schemes and use the drop-down list to choose one that you like. If you want to change any pre-defined scheme, make sure you save the new scheme with a different name. Hope you enjoy these three freebie enhancements as much as I do.
