SuperCleaner - Does What it Says March 09, 2001
SuperCleaner
is another great little program by Firas El-Hasan, if you read the help file you will note that I helped on the beta test ; so I may be a bit bias in favor of the program but I assure you I don't get any of the $20. U.S. cost for it.
"Scans your entire computer for unneeded and obsolete files, using a list of known "junk files"
Gives you the option to selectively remove any files found
Cleans out your Start Menu of dead links
Protects your privacy on the Internet by removing temporary Internet files, history files, and cookies
Includes an easy to use Cookie Manager that protects your personal information from websites
Can be configured to clean automatically when your computer starts up
Supports Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape 4.x and 6.x
System Requirements
Windows 95 or later, Windows NT 4.0 or later
16 MB of RAM" (1)
Uneeded Files Section.
Click on Uneeded files and up pop's a screen that allows you scan you computer, select some or all the files identified for removal and click to remove them. You should open the options menu while you are in this component of the program and select which options you want - I select all of them for my computer. For you more advanced users you can also open the File Types panel and add specific file types you want identified for removal. When you are through with this component of the program just select close to return to the main menu.
Start Menu Cleaner.
Click on Start Menu Cleaner and another screen pop's up which allows you to scan your start menu for broken links, identify them and remove some or all of them. Once again, you should select the screens options menu and tick off the options you want to use. I select Scan the Windows Desktop, Delete Empty Folders, and move deleted links to the Recycle Bin. Select close to return to the main menu.
Internet Privacy.
The pop up panel for this component is divided into Microsoft I.E. and Netscape. I have the Remove all Temporary Files, Remove all typed URL's and remove selected Cookies features all selected on this panel. You can also go into a sub program for identifying all cookies on your machine and then selecting which ones to save. This allows you to keep
your computer free of unwanted cookies; but to keep those you do want. Click on Close to return to main menu.
Miscellaneous.
You can tell this component of the program to: Empty Your recycle bin, Alphabetize your Start Menu, Alphabetize your favorites Menu, Clear the Start/Documents Menu,
Automating the Cleaning Process.
You can left click on the computer icon in the upper left hand corner of the main menu and a pop up menu appears that allows you to select which items you want to
automate in the cleaning process by having SuperCleaner start up every time your computer starts, running a series of operations and then quitting. Depending on how much stuff you have to clean up, this adds anywhere from a few seconds to several seconds to your startup sequence - but its time well spent. (Quality time so to speak. lol)
I have have Empty the I.E caches, Empty the Windows Temp Directory, Remove all typed URL's from I.E., Alphabetize the Start & Favorite menus, empty the recyle bin and Exit SuperCleaner after performing these tasks selected.
Super Cleaner will sit in your taskbar if you so chose and allow you to right click, select options and then select many of the programs cleaning operations via shortcuts. Finally you can choose a couple of skins for the program to play with as well.
