Welcome to

Point of Entry Sites. Feb.07, 2001

Well here I am at my opening page at Yahoo, every time my browser (I.E. 5.5) starts up I get taken to MyYahoo as its set as my homepage. I would guess that most of you have your homepages set either here or at Excite or AltaVista or MSN or AOL, so this review isn't for you guys. Its for those people who have just left the homepage set at the original default settings or worst yet have it set to a blank page. First off - its free; thats always nice. As usual with free services on the net there's an add banner at the top of the page - but that's a small price to pay. Just to give you an idea of what MyYahoo and a lot of other Entry point services can give you I'll do a little description of what I see whenever I startup my browser. First off on the left column are a listing of my stocks with current price per share and how much each has gone up or down so far today. For the last 8 months this has been like riding a roller coaster; overall a very depressing experience as the high tech market has lost between 30% and 40% of its value. At the bottom of the first column is a little search engine which allows you to get a price for any stock you want. The middle column is a series of news headlines by such categories as Canadian Business, Top Stories from Reuters, Canadian Top Stories, Business from Reuters and Technology from Reuters. Each of the above categories has 5 news headings - any of which - I can click on for more details should I desire more information. You can select from 10 to 20 more sources to match up with your interests. The last Item in the middle column is a currency converter. When-ever I order something over the net I like to convert it back in Canadian $ (assuming I am ordering from the US) to get the "real" price for the item. The last column contains a Calendar for the month and under that any appointments, meeting, birthdays etc. for the next 3 days. I input birthdays once and they roll over year after year. Apointments and etc. get inputed as the are made. Below that is a section which contains weather information for cities in my area. I can click on each city to get even more information should I desire. The page is colorized according to my taste and I can add or delete or shift from one column to another whenever I want. Interspersed throughout the page are little toolbars that allow for easy adjustments/changes to what you want to appear on the page. Once you play around with the various setting for a while its really quite simple to customize the page. There are a lot of other things I could have on my page but I like to stick to the basics - not interested in horoscopes, sports, TV programing, Movie programing - but if you are; you can easily include them. I realize that for most of you this particular review is a bit of a bore since you already have your entry points set up - but we were all newbies once.
